How are we to make sense of the legacy of Brutalist architecture in the United States? Despite the recent resurgence of interest in Brutalist architecture, the heavy concrete buildings seem to embody everything that America has sought to distance itself from since the introduction of Reagnomics. Brutalist architecture is heavy, monumental, often cold and sometimes impenetrable. There is a physical and experiential mystery to a good Brutalist space.
